Top Ten Things Tradition
We all have our own way of bringing in the New Year. For me, it's about letting go and making room. I call it my Top Ten Things Tradition. It's a great way to clear your life of things you don't want any more to make room for the things you do want. Each year I get a piece of paper and cut it up into 20 small slips to write on. I take ten of them and write Ten Things I want to let go of from the previous year. So I look back at 2011 and think about things that didn't serve me, or that I simply don't want to repeat, and write them down, one at a time, each on a slip of paper. Then, I think about 2012 and how I want this New Year to unfold. I take the other 10 slips of paper and write down the things I want more of, or the new dreams I want to see unfold. I try to keep both lists focused on my life...which can be hard because I so often times want things for others...but this is a personal list, and it serves best if I keep it that way. Then...at some point on January 1st, I find a way to let go of the Top Ten Things from 2011 in a special way. I've burned them one by one in a beautiful fire, or let them dissolve in a candle fire. A couple of years I went to my favorite stream and let them go there, or in the ocean (biodegradable paper is used). The letting go and watching the things I don't want any more dissolve was wonderful and liberating. Then I keep the ten things for the New Year in a special keepsake box. That way I can visit the box as the year unfolds and enjoy the fulfillment of watching them unfold.
To some, this may be a strange way to bring in the New Year, but for me it's now a Tradition I look forward to . I've always shared it with families as a wonderful activity to do together. It allows a special time of sharing that often doesn't happen in everyday life.
To take it one step deeper and have some fun, create a Vision Board that you keep in your work space to remind you of your dreams, goals, and desires for the New Year. Do it this week as a way to honor a new beginning.
I leave this with you with love and hope that 2012 brings you all your dreams come true.

Reflection
A new year is a great time to reset your body clock, and reorganize your life. Theres something motivating about using a fresh calendar to set new goals in your life. Take some time to reflect on the past and look forward to a healthy, fulfilling future. Reflecting on the past year is a good way to clear the path for the new year. Reflection allows us to let go of the restraints that hold us back and build our strategies to move forward. Acknowledge your accomplishments, and assess which goals you fell short on. An end-of-year-review allows us to learn from those situations that may have not turned out as we might have hoped, and those that did. What goals will set for yourself in 2012?
A New Year, A New You
Here are some questions to ponder as you make your resolutions and set new goals for the upcoming year.
What were your goals for 2011?
What were your greatest accomplishments for 2011 that you are most proud of?
What actions did you take to achieve those accomplishments?
What did you intend to do in 2011 that did not get done?
What are you most grateful for as you reflect back on the year?
Who are your greatest supporters or support systems that you can rely on as you move forward?
What would you like to be different this year compared to last year?
What would it feel like to experience that difference?
What are you willing to do to make this change?
What barriers do you anticipate and what strategies can you put into place to overcome those barriers?
What is the first step you need to take to get closer to your goals?
Healthy Immune System
Getting sick is no fun! Here are some basic tips to help maintain a healthy immune system this year:
1. Sleep Deep. Research suggests that only about a third of Americans get the seven to nine hours of sleep required to help keep their immune systems functioning at full force.
2. Address Stress. A study in Health Psychology suggests that chronic stress lasting a month or longer, can make you more than two times as likely to get sick when exposed to a cold virus compared to someone who isn't overstressed.
3. Eat Well. Focus on bright colored fruits and vegetables because they are stocked full of protective vitamins, minerals, plant sterols, and flavonoids that help support immune cells.
